Our Halsey United Methodist Church is a welcoming Congregation, where all are encouraged to come to know the love of Jesus, grow in their faith and fellowship. Halsey’s traditional service is held Sunday mornings at 9:30 am. It incorporates fellowship, prayer, hymns and biblical teaching.

We encourage you to “come and see” – come worship with us and experience our warm, inviting congregation.

For nearly 200 years,
Halsey Church has been
a religious pillar serving the surrounding community

SOME KEY DATES AND EVENTS

1831 – First church services provided by circuit riders in patron’s homes

1837 – Services were held at a log cabin school known as the Halsey School. This cabin was built in the woods a short distance from the church’s present site at the southwest corner of Halsey and Baldwin Roads

1848 – Services moved to be held at the new Halsey school house, located on the site of the current fire station at Baldwin and Halsey roads

1852 – Halsey was assigned its first pastor

1885 – Construction of the building began. The church purchased the unused Congressional Church, built in 1850 and located at the corner of South Saginaw and Holly Roads. The men of the “Halsey Community” helped take down the church, move it to its present site and reconstruct it. Sheds were built behind the church to shelter horses, buggies, and wagons for its members

1926 – A kitchen was added to the north side of the building

1941 – A dining room was added with a basement for classrooms on the buildings west side

1957 – The Parsonage was built

1972 – The Sanctuary was remodeled

1989 – Building of the Halsey Community Center

2010 – A complete remodel and expansion of the church building which included all new plumbing, electrical and handicap access

2013 - The Pavilion was built for outdoor services and events

Meet the Team

  • Rev. Carol Bouse

    Pastor

    Rev. Carol Blair Bouse is the pastor of Halsey United Methodist Church. She began here in July of 2024 and continues to serve this wonderful church family. She has been ordained in the United Methodist Churches for 30 years, serving churches throughout Michigan from rural farming towns to large metropolitan communities. She feels passionate about the ministry she continues to engage in here at Halsey.

    Rev. Blair Bouse currently splits her time between Halsey and the East Winds District of the Michigan Conference, her work includes assisting congregation and clergy in revitalization, missions, communications, and training. She is a graduate of Adrian College with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary where she completed a Master of Divinity with an emphasis on Worship.

    Pastor Carol is married and has two boys. For the first time, she and her husband will soon be empty nesters. In her spare time, she loves to sing. Pastor Carol is a member of the Flint Symphony Chorus and the St. Cecila Society of Flint. She also loves to build puzzles.

  • Lucas Venne

    Music Director / Musician

    Originally from Port Henry, New York, Lucas Venne is a classically trained musician with a deep passion for performance, musicals/plays and sacred music.

    He studied Musical Arts and has played for weddings, funerals, orchestras, pit orchestras for musicals, churches of various denominations, symphonic ensembles and including a performance at Carnegie Hall. Now based in Grand Blanc, Michigan, since 2015, he serves as the Music Director, Piano Accompanist, and Administrative Assistant for Halsey United Methodist Church. Skilled in 13 instruments, he primarily plays piano, oboe, flute, piccolo, and fife.

    Outside of music, Lucas enjoys the grace and tranquility of nature, has a special fondness for flora and fauna, and unwinds with a game of chess, pinochle or a computer game when time allows. His parents and family still reside in Port Henry.
